Toowoomba Grammar Show 2012
Friday March 23 - Sunday March 25.
Toowoomba Grammar School,
24 Margaret Street.
Toowoomba Grammar School,
24 Margaret Street.
2011 has been off this planet
M A R S was launched in our wee town with four resident artists, monthly M A R Sweeks, seasonal shows and offsite art-making + sharing all in the name of Metro Artist Run Space.
We've enjoyed amazing sales, huge support from locals and the general awesomeness of creative energy buzzing in all our adventures.
(Full details here: http://marsonline.tumblr.com)
And now, we're upping the stakes again... 2012 is going to be all of the above but with more people, more space, more often.
Yep, M A R S is heading offsite to its own fulltime HQ come 2012.
Pairing up with an exciting performing arts troupe, M A R S is accepting applications now for our 2012 MARTIANS.
Plus, we'll be working onsite with rotating resident artists, exciting entrepreneurs, creative collectives, musicians, thinkers and whoever else with the goods puts their hand up.
Hate to do this to you again but ... watch this space. Or this one: http://marsonline.tumblr.com
or hell, even this one: https://www.facebook.com/pages/MARS/200866053288231

Happy New Year - with a special emphasis on 'happy' and 'new' for Toowoomba artists and art lovers.
Metro Cafe and Events is dramatically expanding its commitment to the arts this year in ways never before seen in Toowoomba.
And I can't friggin wait to reveal all the details any day now.
Oooh the suspense - you can't believe how hard it's been for me to keep this under wraps for so long!
Not long now though .... so watch this space!

off the hill ...
Can't believe it's nearly the end of the year already and an awesome year its been, too.
So to send it off in a manner fitting, I'm heading down the hill and taking some of my pieces with me - Thursday December 16 @ Bleeding Heart Gallery.
Creative Drinks is a Brisbane organisation that promotes emerging artists and venues with its nights of exhibiting, chit chatting, tunes, performances and, perhaps most importantly, drinking.
I'll be taking four works from my 2010 collection - looking forward to it.

done done done done :::: mentorships on offer
Applications are open for JUMP: a mentoring program.
If you're creating killer art, have a plan on how to keep at it but could do with some insider knowhow on how to really soar, then this program could be for you.
Check out the website and the application form - it's pretty full on BUT, i'm lining up a Q&A session via Skype for those close to Toowoomba and keen to apply.
SO - let me know and we can suss it out - there's some awesome brains for the picking and Toowoomba could do with some explosives under the seats of its creative geniii!
http://www.jumpmentoring.com.au/
*NB: mentor may not actually be a white-suited-pixelated 80s guy - or, on that, it may not be a shoulder-padded, power-do-ed 80s charger lady

Learn your way around an aerosol can ...
Jason Parasyn has done loads of Toowoomba's murals and street art over the past decade.

Now he's gonna share some skills at a two-hour workshop here in Toowoomba.
We'll cover materials.
It'll go for about two hours.
Relaxed, informal, good tunes etc
It'll cost ya $20.
(even though that's a stencil in the pic above, we'll be focussing on free hand, so you know)

now: contemporary art in the here and
edgy, intellectualised, layers of interpretation.
metro's fourth seasonal exhibition is going beyond pretty shit for walls.
Opening 6pm Thursday June 17 2010, it's art borne from more than an urge to paint.
turns out Toowoomba is home to more than a few talented art geeks:
students, PHdudes and graduates, so 'now' is them.
we gots fine arts PHD Tiffany Ashram, paper creator Angela Grabasch, then there's Farhana Ahad, Alice Weinthal, Joey Gilleard, Joeli Eastell, me and owner of Toowoomba's newest art gallery, 53 Russell, Darren Keily... among others
Super cafe dude, Dan Stewart's locked in more live goodness with fringe youth dance theatre, rainer pollard, dance central & jeff burton
there's even whispers of a ukelele troope ...
what's that?
yeah, you can come.
15 railway street, Toowoomba.
Bar open, meals available.

alternative arts vs kath dickson ::> JUNE 11
so-we found a bunch of people who, like ourselves, like art.
we got together one sunny saturday and did it.
on a lawn.
some of it, gots to say, is pretty awesome.
like this nicko and paint pen colab by Ben Clarke and Ian McCallum.
there's also stuff by Zach Lawry, Ruth Cadioli, Winny Jane, Joey GK and me.
now, it's going to be on some walls @ Kath Dickson Community Artspace, Ruthven street (near Russell st) for three weeks from June 11.
If you wanna see spontaneous, good-vibin, for the hell of it art then it’s worth a look.
for info on Alternative Arts Toowoomba, go to http://alternativeartstoowoomba.weebly.com/

GRIT. exploring urban culture
Suburban Toowoomba will hopefully come up with some nasty goods for this, Metro's third seasonal exhibition. Opening night is March 11, 2010 from 6pm.
This town is well known for its pretty flowers and thoroughly suburban ways (we have every major franchise ever shipped anywhere here...
Toowoomba is very domesticated, sometimes suffocatingly so).
I've locked in some locals doing urban, fringe stuff (Chelsie Luck, Zach Lawry, Andrew Haynes and Albert Chessa) and am hoping to find a few more before it all kicks off.
Dan Stewart, the cafe's event's dude has roped in some dancers, a hip hop dude and Mace McGregor for the aural and physical entertainment.
And then, of course, we're working our magic on bringin a little something that hopefully borders on wrong, for the pleasure of those in attendance on the night!
The pole dancer last time was a lovely addition -- -
As for me, I'm working on another two works to hang on the night, making about five all up.
